How to solve the Mermaid puzzle in Stardew Valley

The Mermaid Puzzle is part of one of the most beautiful cutscenes in Stardew Valley, the Mermaid Show. This is a yearly event that can give you a Pearl as a reward. If you’re looking for the Mermaid Puzzle solution, I’ve prepared this guide to help you solve it.

Below you will find all the information you need, including the day you can find this event, and how you can figure out the solution even if you don’t have the Secret Note.

When is the Mermaid Show available?

Every year, the Night Market event is open on the 15th, 16th, and 17th days of Winter, and it takes place on the docks. There are several events there, including the submarine where you can fish for some unique fish, such as the Super Cucumber, Blobfish, Octopus, Midnight Squid and the newly-added Sea Jelly.

The Mermaid Show is located on the right side of the screen, right past the art dealer.

How to solve the Mermaid puzzle in Stardew Valley

Right when you enter the mermaid boat, a beautiful mermaid will put on a show, singing and showing you a sequence (the right sequence) in which you have to press the shells. Once you press each shell in the right order, you will receive a Pearl.

If you happen to miss the sequence shown, you can still solve the puzzle, as long as you have collected the 15th Secret Note. As you probably know, Secret Notes are the little pieces of paper you dig up from worms all across the Valley, and when you right-click them, they go to your Secret Note inventory.

On the 15th Secret Note, you can read the solution to the puzzle, like in the image below:

Basically, all you need to do is press the shells in that order, and you’re set!

The solution for the Mermaid Puzzle is 1-5-4-2-3.

The reward

When completing the Mermaid Puzzle, you receive a Pearl. This is an incredibly valuable and rare item, similar to the Prismatic Shard, and valued at 2500 Gold. I strongly recommend you hold onto it until you’re sure what you want to use it for. It makes for a great gift, but it can also be traded in for a Birch Double Bed (in Calico Desert) or you can use it to create some neat clothes. I personally like to place it in the fish tank for decoration, since I like to hold onto all the rare collectibles I find!

Oh, and don’t forget to visit the Flower Dance Festival if you’re into some bouncing and spinning!
