- Sid Meier’s Railroads is debuting a try-before-you-buy update
- This will let you give the railroad tycoon-esque game a go before making a purchase
- Railroads is one of Sid Meier’s premier titles
It seems nowadays that try-before-you-buy is becoming the order of the day when it comes to premium games. Ironically, that wasn’t previously unusual as those who remember the days of lite versions of games can attest. And now Sid Meier’s Railroads for iOS and Android is the latest to give it a go.
If you’re not already familiar, Sid Meier’s Railroads is exactly what it says on the tin. A grand strategy game from legendary designer Sid Meier. It covers America, Europe and Great Britain in the heyday of the steam locomotive, as you lay tracks, set routes and overall seek to dominate the burgeoning rail market.
Now, you’ll be able to download and try out the first 20 years’ worth of the Southwest US scenario without spending a dime. Duke it out with rival railroad barons in the midst of the California Gold Rush in order to become the top dog of the railways.
Choo-choo
I think this is probably the right way to go about it, not just to try and grab sceptical players but also because it means you can get the chance to see how well Railroads performs on your device. As I wrote in my Maid of Sker review, performance can be a major factor on mobile for virtually any game, even for a normally slow-paced strategy effort like Sid Meier’s Railroads.
