OldSchool RuneScape is celebrating its anniversary on mobile with brand new features

  • OldSchool RuneScape is celebrating six years on mobile
  • And to commemorate the occasion, Jagex is adding a whole host of new features
  • The brand-new UI smooths out virtually everything

While most MMORPGs are seen as niche and “nerdy” there’s arguably one that defies that convention, and it’s the original RuneScape. This hit, free-to-play MMO was a cornerstone of even the least hardcore of people’s childhoods, and you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who hadn’t played it at least once.

And now, OldSchool RuneScape – the throwback version – is celebrating six years on mobile with a massive UI overhaul. Sound boring? Well if it does you’re probably not one of the hardcore, nostalgic players this is aimed towards.

For the rest of you, this update puts it on par with the desktop version, boasting newly-aligned side stones, popout panels, hotkeys and a new chat function. If you’ve ever found yourself somewhat miffed about OSR’s mobile interface, then maybe now’s the time to jump back in and give it another go.

The original RuneScape has not exactly aged well in the interface department. And aside from letting players relive their nostalgia, OldSchool RuneScape has gone a long way to solving those issues while keeping the feeling of the original alive. Admittedly it’s not exactly a monumental addition, but from my own experience, I’ll attest that many players, especially when it comes to MMORPGs, value a good UI and interface as much as snazzy new gameplay features.
