- Bringing the Lich King and more to Diablo Immortal
- Fight the Lich King in his Fallen Citadel
- Get demon cosmetics, murlocs, and cursed cosmetics
There’s an art to the crossover or the collaboration where the two pieces need to be introduced in a way that they don’t immediately want to kill each other. Activision Blizzard has an advantage since they hold the reins of Diablo Immortal in one hand and Warcraft in the other, and they’ve decided to pray.
This is how Diablo Immortal got hit with the Eternal War – you know, on top of already being an eternal war of Hell versus everyone else. The collab introduces this new event which adds in some of the most recognizable elements of Warcraft to the Diablo universe and gives you the chance to earn some of their goodies.
What’s happening in the Diablo Immortal x World of Warcraft collab?
Diablo and Warcraft are two of Activision Blizzard’s biggest properties that have been pulling numbers since the ’90s. It’s a bit odd that they didn’t do some sort of team-up much sooner, but ours is not to question their way – ours is but to sit and play. Here’s a quick breakdown of the main plots in both titles: Diablo Immortal has people going out into the world to stop the forces of Hell from getting access to the Worldstone because then they’ll do bad stuff with it.
World of Warcraft changes the main plotline every few years, but one of their biggest was people teaming up to stop a tyrant known as the Lich King from taking over the world. With this collab, the portals have opened and the Lich King brings his conquest into Diablo Immortal’s world of Sanctuary. It’s up to you and whoever’s brave enough to join the fight and earn those pretty WoW cosmetics on display.
The glamour of the Diablo Immortal x World of Warcraft collab
You could say that when it comes to collaborations, people want two things: new cosmetics and new events. Well, the Diablo Immortal x World of Warcraft collab has not skimped on that and has thrown a lot into this new patch, which you’ll have to spend a few minutes downloading. The collab introduces an event known as the Eternal War where you visit the Fallen Citadel, the iconic location of the Lich King’s Frozen Throne, or jump into the battles of the Cutthroat Basin (based on the Arathi Basin) for a good ol’ fight.
Depending on what you’re into, you can go for the PvE (Fallen Citadel) or the PvP (Cutthroat Basin). Each is a limited event that will give you the chance to earn specific cosmetics, with Lich King stuff for the former and allegiance banners for the latter. If you take on the Frozen Citadel, you’ll be running through a gauntlet of blizzards and undead that culminates in a grand encounter with the Lich King himself.
Cutthroat Basin will have you running around a battlefield following the faction of your choice as you try to defeat opponents. If you’re just in the market for cool stuff, the Phantom Market has the Betrayer’s Bonds in rotation to look like a follower of the Demon Hunter Night Elf Illidan Stormrage. You can try your luck at getting a Murloc transmogrification for your familiar or pick up a piece of the legendary blade Frostmourne, the Mourneskull, at the shop.
Of all the collab has to offer, the Fallen Citadel is the star of the show. It’s a dungeon designed to test your resilience and your determination to push through the dauntless cold. You’re faced with a long corridor that has bouts of blizzard to prevent your approach and drain your health. This is countered with legions of undead soldiers that will assault you while you wait for the winds to die down.
Pushing through the end takes you to the Lich King’s throne room where the big man himself declares dominion over this world and only you are standing in his way. This is a challenging boss fight for a solo player and an exciting ordeal for a team as the Lich King makes use of his size, his reach, the open arena, and his power over ice. His defenses are powerful and he’ll summon minions to his aid without shame. Even the most prepared will struggle – and that’s what makes the fight all the more tense and the victory all the sweeter.
Diablo Immortal x World of Warcraft collab friction
As with any patch, especially one of this magnitude, there are bound to be some issues. What makes the technical problems of the Diablo Immortal x World of Warcraft collab stand out is the fact that it’s a limited event, so there’s a chance that there’s less urgency to address it.
The Frozen Tundra is where the Fallen Citadel is located – and there are issues, namely that there are large plains of ice where your character will fall through and never come back. The Cutthroat Basin event is also tricky to resolve. It has a difficult start-up, so either the event needs to be in a good mood or your setup needs to be flawless.
In fact, as a general rule of thumb, don’t attempt this patch unless you’re confident in your device’s WiFi functionality. You’ll also need confidence in the WiFi itself since there’s a lot of content to download, and there are only so many chances to get some of the cooler cosmetics. It would be a letdown to go through all this not to end up with a Murloc fishing buddy.
The Diablo Immortal x World of Warcraft collab awaits
As far as collaborations go, the Diablo Immortal x World of Warcraft collab is solid. The same can’t be said for the technical side of things, but the Fallen Citadel dungeon is reliable, the Lich King fight is cool, and there’s a decent chance to get those sweet Demon Hunter and Murloc cosmetics. If you can get some other folks together, you can recreate some of the magic of taking on the Lich King for the first time, before grabbing his Frostmourne and slapping Diablo’s face with it.
