- Fantasy Voyage is a new ARPG that mixes in elements of tower defence
- It promises a new take on the fairytale format, with twisted versions of storybook characters
- Collect Spirit Cards and build your Bond with a variety of interesting characters
If you’ve been looking for a new take on classic fairytales, you’re probably feeling a bit thin on the ground when it comes to new releases. Fortunately, today’s subject Fantasy Voyager might just blend the animesque, twisted fairytales you’ve been looking for, with a healthy dose of ARPG action, tower defence and co-op play to boot!
Coming to us from developer Fantasy Tree, Fantasy Voyager sees you dropped into a conflict engulfing the Dream Kingdom, as the Princess battles it out with the Lord of Nightmares. You’ll have to collect Spirit Cards embodying twisted versions of classic fairytale characters to defeat the Lord of Nightmares.
But what can you actually expect from Fantasy Voyager? Well, it promises a blend of the typical ARPG action you might expect, alongside Warcraft-inspired tower defense scenarios. You’ll increase the Bond with your spirit cards to unlock powerful new effects and abilities, as you progress through this strange take on the Once Upon a Time format.
Beyond the red hood
Now admittedly, gameplay-wise I don’t think Fantasy Voyager necessarily stands out, however, I do like the idea of taking a twisted fairytale perspective on things. It’s not the rarest set-up, but it’s not necessarily common either (although even Disney have gotten in on it recently) and yet I think it’s still got plenty of legs for a variety of genres.
Is it worth a play? You’ll have to find out for yourself, but if you’re looking for some intriguing character designs, and with the promise of plenty of equally engaging gameplay, Fantasy Voyager might be the new release for you.
