Soulron lets you catch creatures and battle them in the wild across pixel-art visuals, out now on iOS

  • Catch creatures called Soulron and discover their skills
  • Strategise the best moves to use in turn-based combat
  • Old-school pixel-art visuals

In case you missed it, indie developer Andy Wang has officially launched Soulron, a pixel-art creature battler on iOS. Featuring monster-collecting mechanics and charming visuals, the retro-inspired RPG tasks you with battling the titular creatures across vibrant environments.

In Soulron, you can look forward to tinkering around with the variety of movements that each Soulron has as you encounter them in the wild. The old-school aesthetics harken back to the good ol’ days of RPGs, so there’s plenty of nostalgia to go around once you dive in.

Combat, much like classic Pokemon games, is a turn-based affair. You’ll need to strategise the right moves to unleash on your foes to take down other Soulron as well as challenging bosses with varying elements. There’s a colourful world to move around in too as you explore different dungeons, so if you’re itching for that classic monster-catching vibe, this might just be your cup of tea.

While there are lots of monster-catching titles floating around in the market these days – arguably the most intriguing one being Miraibo GO on mobile – sometimes it pays to strip things down to just the basics, and Soulron does seem like the type of adventure that does just that.

Now, does that sound like it’s right up your alley? If you’re on the hunt for more nostalgic trips down memory lane, why not take a look at our list of the best retro-inspired games on iOS to get your fill?

In the meantime, if you’re eager to join in on all the fun, you can do so by checking it out on the App Store. It’s a premium title that costs $0.99 a pop or your local equivalent.
