- Disney Pixel RPG is set to drop on October 7th, next month!
- It’s a retro-inspired RPG where you fight alongside famous faces from Disney canon
- Create your own avatar, explore a variety of picturesque worlds and more
Disney Pixel RPG, the retro-inspired title packed to the gills with characters and places from the Disney canon, is set to release on October 7th. A hotly-anticipated effort from GungHo Entertainment, it draws on the wide cast of characters that even casual fans of the Disney film vault will recognise. But what can you expect when it releases? Let’s find out!
Boasting a mixture of automatic or tactical, player-controlled battles, Disney Pixel RPG sees you create and customise your own avatar to fight alongside a wide cast of characters from Disney’s wide crop of properties. Naturally, you’ll be mixing up intense combat with more casual downtime where you can interact with famous faces like the Genie, Mickey Mouse and more.
While it’s not exactly pushing the boat out in terms of design, this is the first Disney-styled RPG I can think of that tries to push into the retraux genre, with its cutesy pixel graphics and animesque art style. I’d definitely say it’s cribbing from the oft-successful style of Kingdom Hearts if I were more cynical.
Sufferin’ succotash (I think that’s right)
I’m anything but cynical, of course. In fact, I’d be surprised if Disney Pixel RPG isn’t a big hit, as the Disney canon remains one of the biggest cornerstones of entertainment worldwide (for better or worse). With the game set to hit storefronts on October 7th for iOS and Android, you’ll be able to get your hands on it within only a few weeks.
